چکیده

IFS compression technique, proposed by Barnsley [1], has been widely studied because of its potentially high compression rates. Usually IFS code is determined by minimizing the rms error between a given image and its collage. As rms error is not a physiological metric, images obtained through the standard IFS coding evidence a lot of noise (blocking effect, bad definition). In order to reduce this feeling of noise without incurring in any compression loss, we applied IFS method to minimize the weighted error between the DCT of the given image, partitioned in 8 x 8 sub-blocks, and the DCT of its collage; the weighting is performed through the JPEG matrix. This metric allows us to take into account the physiological properties of human eye and to obtain images which we feel to be more similar to the original than the ones achieved through standard IFS with the rms metric.

Comparison of Compression Ability Using DCT and Fractal Technique on Different Imaging Modalities

Image compression is one of the most important applications Digital Image Processing. Advanced medical imaging requires storage of large quantities of digitized clinical data. Due to the constrained bandwidth and storage capacity, however, a medical image must be compressed before transmission and storage. There are two types of compression methods, lossless and lossy. In Lossless compression m...

A hybrid fractal-DCT coding scheme for image compression

We introduce a new way to use fractal coding for image compression, based on the parallel use of a fractal encoder and a DCT encoder. The two encoders are given the complementary roles to capture the information of edge and smooth variation, and the information of detail respectively. We show the advantage of using this hybrid coding scheme over the use of a fractal encoder alone, or a DCT enco...

Fast Image Domain Fractal Compression by DCT Domain Block Matching

Fractal image compression entails a computationally costly search for matching image blocks. It is proposed that a block be represented by its DCT coefficients, which may be made invariant to many of the usual block transforms. Due to the energy packing properties of the DCT, the efficiency of an existing multidimensional nearest neighbour search is improved.

Fractal Compression Using Ifs Operators on Transforms

Standard fractal image compression techniques rely on using an IFS operator directly on the image function. However, sometimes it is more convenient to work on some transformed version of the image. For example, an MRI image is scanned in as frequency data. Thus, it is more natural to work on the Fourier Transform of the image rather than on the image itself. Furthermore, if your image quality ...
